How to play Countdown

Countdown's numbers round gives you six tiles and a three-digit target. Combine the tiles two at a time with addition, subtraction, multiplication and division to reach the target exactly. Every tile can be used only once — but each result you make becomes a new tile you can use again.

THE RULES

1. Tap two tiles, then tap an operator (+ − × ÷) to combine them.
2. Subtraction must stay positive; division must be exact (no fractions).
3. The two tiles are used up; their result becomes a new tile.
4. Keep combining until one tile equals the target exactly.

BEGINNER STRATEGY

• Aim near the target first. Multiply a couple of tiles to land in the right ballpark, then fine-tune with + and −.
• Use the big numbers as scaffolding. 25, 50, 75 and 100 get you close fast; the small tiles bridge the last gap.
• Undo freely. A dead end costs nothing — back up a step and try a different combination.
• Watch the previews. Each operator shows the number it would make, so you can see the result before you commit.

Every visitor on the same UTC day gets the same six tiles and target, seeded from the date. Your progress is saved to this browser — close the tab and come back later. A new puzzle unlocks at midnight UTC.
