Skyscraper is a Latin-square logic puzzle. Each cell holds a building of height 1 to N (where N is the grid size), with every height appearing exactly once in each row and column. The numbers around the edge are visibility clues: standing at that edge and looking along the row or column, they tell you how many buildings you can see. A taller building completely hides every shorter one behind it.
THE RULES
- Every row must contain each height 1–N exactly once.
- Every column must contain each height 1–N exactly once.
- Each edge clue equals the number of buildings visible from that side — taller buildings hide shorter ones behind them.
- Edges without a clue leave the visibility count up to you.
BEGINNER STRATEGY
- A clue of 1 means the tallest building (height N) sits right at that edge — nothing else could hide it.
- A clue of N means every building is visible, so the line must climb in order: 1, 2, 3 … N from that edge.
- Work the extremes first. Clues of 1 and N pin a whole cell or line; from there, row/column elimination fills the rest like Sudoku.
- Bigger clues push tall buildings back. A clue of 2 on a 5-wide row means height 5 cannot be in the first cell — at least one shorter building must be seen before it.
