How to play Sumplete

Sumplete is a deletion puzzle: you see a grid of numbers with a target sum shown for every row and every column. Your job is to cross out exactly the right cells so that the remaining numbers in each row and column add up to their targets. One unique solution, pure logic.

THE ONE RULE

Cross out cells so that the sum of the remaining (un-crossed) cells in every row equals that row's target, and the sum of the remaining cells in every column equals that column's target. Every target must be satisfied simultaneously.

BEGINNER STRATEGY

  • Check for a zero target. If a row or column target is 0, every cell in that row or column must be crossed out. That alone can unlock other rows.
  • Look for forced keeps. If a row's current sum already equals its target, cross out all remaining empty cells in that row. They cannot contribute without overshooting.
  • Use column constraints to disambiguate rows. When a row has two possible deletions that both give the right row sum, check which version satisfies the column constraints — usually only one does.
  • Watch the live totals. The numbers beside each row and below each column show your current sum. Green means you've hit the target exactly. Red (error) means you've deleted a cell you should have kept.
