How to play Shikaku

Shikaku gives you a grid scattered with numbers. Divide the whole grid into rectangles so that each rectangle contains exactly one number, and that number equals the rectangle's area (its width × height). Every cell ends up inside exactly one rectangle — no gaps, no overlaps.

THE RULES

  1. Tap one corner cell, then the opposite corner, to draw a rectangle.
  2. Each rectangle must contain exactly one number.
  3. That number is the rectangle's area — a 6 is a 1×6, 2×3, etc.
  4. Rectangles can't overlap; together they cover the whole grid.
  5. Tap a rectangle you've drawn to clear it and try again.

BEGINNER STRATEGY

  • Start with the 1s and primes. A 1 is its own cell; a prime like 5 can only be a 1×5 or 5×1, so its orientation is nearly forced.
  • Watch the edges and corners. A number in a corner has far fewer ways to fit — pin those down first.
  • Let neighbours constrain each other. Once one rectangle is placed, the cells it claims rule out shapes for the numbers beside it.
  • Clear freely. A wrong rectangle costs nothing — tap it to remove it and try a different shape.
